My name is Mike Phillips and I live in Tumalo, Oregon. I am the owner and outfitter for Slack Line Flyfishing LLC.
Twenty years ago I started and have worked my entire guiding and outfitting career with John Judy on the Deschutes River.

John has written several books and articles about flyfishing. His most recognized book "Slack Line Strategies for Fly Fishing" is the inspiration for my business name.

What I have learned in all the years I have spent working with John is that he has always shown a real passion and working knowledge of the Deschutes, it's fish, the sport of fly fishing and the guiding profession. If you were on the Deschutes with John, he openly shared his knowledge of the river, the fish and the river canyon's natural beauty with you while also teaching you tactics and techniques to catch fish. It was always about the overall experience. The reward was that it made the trip fun, educational and a great escape from our busy lves.

In keeping with those attributes, I will work with you to meet your desires and needs on your river adventure to the best of my ability.  I love what I do and I look forward to fishing with you.

I have been in the snowsport industry for over thirty five years as a full time teacher and coach. The journey that I have taken and skills that I have learned from my skiing and teaching experiences are readily transferable to my fishing and guiding.

Here is just a sampling of my journey and other related interests:

  • Lead Alpine Snowsports School trainer at Mt. Bachelor in Bend,Oregon.
  • Current Alpine Technical Team member, Examiner and Certification V.P. for the Professional Ski Instructors of America, Northwest Division. We share our passion for the sport, coach, train and certify instructors to be better teachers and skiers. We also do research and development on educational materials and programs for our membership and division.
  • If I am away from the Deschutes River or skiing somewhere in the Northwest, you will find me fishing the many Western Oregon rivers in the winter, spring, summer or fall.  I also enjoy spending time on the many beautiful tropical islands with my wife, stalking Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon or just hanging out at the beach.
